President William Ruto is currently attending the International Youth Day celebrations held in Kakamega County.

The event is taking place at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, where the Governor of Kakamega County, Fernandes Barasa, warmly welcomed the President and hosted the gathering. This special day is dedicated to recognizing the important role young people play in society.

The theme for this year’s International Youth Day is “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” This theme focuses on how young people can actively participate in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within their own communities.

It encourages youth to be leaders in development efforts, not just in Kenya but all around the world.

During the event, President Ruto made a significant announcement about a new initiative aimed at helping young entrepreneurs across Kenya.

He revealed that the government will establish a Youth Enterprise Investment Bank with a starting capital of 9.75 billion Kenyan shillings.

This bank will provide affordable loans, credit guarantees, and training programs to support young people in starting and growing their businesses.

The goal is to make it easier for youth to access money and skills needed for success in entrepreneurship.

In addition to this, the President spoke about the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program. This program will begin distributing 50,000 Kenyan shillings to each eligible young person starting in September.

The NYOTA program is funded by the World Bank and is designed to help youth overcome challenges such as unemployment, lack of steady income, and difficulty saving money.

It aims to empower young Kenyans by giving them the financial support needed to improve their lives and create new opportunities.

This event is a key moment for Kenya’s youth as it highlights the government’s commitment to investing in young people’s futures.

By focusing on both financial support and practical training, these programs seek to create a generation of empowered, skilled, and confident youth ready to contribute to the country’s growth.

For those interested in more updates and live coverage of the event, there are live broadcasts available online showing President Ruto’s participation and the ongoing celebrations in Kakamega.
