Gachagua’s DCP Responds After Juja MP Koimburi Aligns Himself With President Ruto
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has finally spoken out following the surprise move by Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi to associate himself with President William Ruto’s political camp.
In a detailed statement released on Thursday, January 15, the DCP strongly rejected claims that Koimburi had defected from the party.
According to the party leadership, Koimburi has never been a registered member of DCP and has never taken part in any of its official activities since its formation.
The party explained that although Koimburi had previously been viewed as a close political ally of Gachagua, he had noticeably distanced himself over the last six months.
DCP stated that during this period, Koimburi avoided appearing with Gachagua at public events and repeatedly gave various excuses whenever he was invited to attend party-related functions.
DCP also revealed fresh details about Koimburi’s last interaction with Gachagua before his political shift. According to the statement, on Monday morning, January 12, 2026, Koimburi personally called Gachagua requesting an urgent meeting.
He reportedly told the former Deputy President that he was under a lot of pressure and needed clarification on several political matters.
Gachagua agreed to the request, and the meeting took place later that day at 5 pm in his private office. Koimburi attended the meeting alongside DCP’s Deputy National Chairperson, Peter Mwathi.
During the discussion, Koimburi allegedly expressed anger and disappointment over the decision to allow his former political rival, Aloise Kinyanjui, to associate with the DCP.
He reportedly felt betrayed, arguing that despite supporting Gachagua during his impeachment and remaining loyal when others walked away, his competitor was now being welcomed into the party.
According to DCP, Koimburi went further to demand that Aloise Kinyanjui be removed from the party altogether.
He also insisted on receiving a written guarantee that he would be handed a direct party nomination in the next elections without going through party primaries.
The party further claimed that Koimburi demanded permission to stay away from public political events involving Gachagua until February next year.
He allegedly argued that reducing his public visibility would help slow down the ongoing court cases he is currently facing.
In a more serious allegation, DCP stated that Koimburi warned he would return to President Ruto’s camp if his demands were not met.
The statement noted that Gachagua acknowledged and appreciated Koimburi for standing with him during the impeachment process and the difficult political period that followed.
However, DCP maintained that Gachagua made it clear that direct nominations could not be issued. He reportedly reminded Koimburi that DCP operates as a democratic party where all candidates must compete fairly through party nominations, regardless of past loyalty or political history.
The party’s response came just hours after Koimburi publicly announced that he was cutting ties with DCP. While addressing journalists on Wednesday, January 14, Koimburi accused the party leadership of intimidation and deliberately sidelining some members.
He claimed that loyal members were being pushed aside in favor of newcomers, warning his constituents to be careful when dealing with emerging political parties. Speaking specifically about Kiambu County, Koimburi alleged that internal party operations were unfair and exploitative.
“We who have been there from the beginning are being pushed aside,” Koimburi said. “I am asking my people to be very careful with these parties, especially this DCP party in Kiambu County.”
He further accused the party of allegedly collecting money from members and supporters with promises of party tickets, claiming that the process was not transparent.
The unfolding drama highlights growing tensions within opposition politics as leaders and parties reposition themselves ahead of future political contests, with loyalty, nominations, and power struggles increasingly shaping alliances.
