No Life Should Be Cut Short Senselessly: Orengo Deeply Saddened by the Death of Former County Clerk
Siaya Governor James Orengo has called for a quick and comprehensive investigation into the shocking death of Felix Isaac Olwero, who previously served as the Clerk of the Siaya County Assembly.
Olwero was reportedly shot dead by police officers outside his own establishment, Whitehouse Resort in Seme, Kisumu County, during the early morning hours of Monday, August 18. The shooting is believed to have resulted from a case of mistaken identity.
According to details from a police report filed at Kombewa Police Station, officers were on patrol responding to a distress call alleging a possible break-in at Olwero’s resort.
The report says that during the incident, one officer fired shots, killing a man who was allegedly armed with a machete. The deceased was later identified as Olwero himself.
Governor Orengo strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a senseless and painful tragedy. He sent his condolences and insisted that justice must be pursued quickly and thoroughly.
“I am devastated by the tragic loss of Felix Olwero, former Siaya County Assembly Clerk and husband to our CECM for Sports, Madam Angeline Oduor, who was brutally shot dead this morning under unclear circumstances. We condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms and we demand a fast and detailed investigation so that justice can be done. No human life should ever be ended in such a senseless manner,” Orengo declared.
This painful incident comes just a few months after Governor Orengo also mourned the death of another county staff member, George Were, a senior driver in the county government who died in a road accident while on duty.
In his earlier message, Orengo expressed sadness over the passing of Were, who was travelling to Naivasha for official duties when the accident occurred.
“It is a deeply sorrowful and heavy evening for Siaya County as we mourn the passing of one of our own, Senior Driver George Were, who was involved in a tragic road accident at Delamere Center while on official duty heading to Naivasha,” he noted.
The governor also revealed that the accident had left several other county officials injured, including the Chief Officer for Education, Richard Ogeda, and Easter Okello from the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB). He sent heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and wished the injured victims a quick recovery.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to George’s family and pray that they may find strength and comfort during this very painful period. We also wish a fast and complete recovery to Chief Officer for Education Mr. Richard Ogeda, Easter Okello of the LREB, and all other staff members who sustained injuries in the accident,” Orengo added.
