Former Garissa North Member of Parliament (MP), Abdikadir Hassan Yussuf, popularly known by many as Tolly, has passed away.
The sad news was confirmed on Friday, August 22, 2025, through a statement issued by Fafi MP Abdikarim Osman.
According to reports, the former legislator died while traveling back to Kenya from Australia. He reportedly passed away while in transit in Dubai. The exact cause of his death has not yet been revealed.
In his condolence message, MP Osman expressed his deep sorrow and sent his prayers to the family of the late leader.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Garissa North MP Hon. Abdikadir Hassan Yussuf, also known as Tallie, who left us earlier today. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all his loved ones during this painful moment.
I pray that Allah gives them strength, patience, and peace of heart as they mourn. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un,” Osman said.
Abdikadir Yussuf was a respected political figure who served in the 5th Parliament in 1983 as the Member of Parliament for Garissa North. Many residents and leaders remember him as a man who was passionate about his community and dedicated to public service.
Following the announcement of his death, several leaders across the country sent in their condolences to the bereaved family. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was among the first to mourn the late politician.
“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. Following the passing of our leader and elder, Hon. Abdikadir Hassan Yussuf, also known as Tolli, who once represented Garissa North Constituency, we pray: O Allah, forgive him and raise his station among those who are rightly guided.
Place him among those who came before him, and forgive both him and us. Enlarge his grave, make it peaceful, and fill it with Your light,” Duale said in his tribute.
The late MP’s family also shared their grief publicly. Abdiaziz Mohamed Yusuf Ateye, a nephew of the late Abdikadir, paid a moving tribute through Facebook, describing his uncle as a source of inspiration.
“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. My uncle, Abdikadir Hassan Yussuf, also called Tolly, the former Garissa North MP, has passed away. He was not just family but also an inspirational leader who guided and influenced many. May Allah rest his soul in peace,” Abdiaziz wrote.
The passing of Abdikadir Hassan Yussuf has been felt deeply in Garissa and beyond, as many recall his contributions to the community and his leadership role in Parliament.
Leaders, family, and friends continue to mourn the loss of a man remembered for his service, humility, and dedication to the people.
