Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sent a strong message to the people of the Mt Kenya region, cautioning them against President William Ruto’s political tactics.
Speaking in Kanyuambora, Mbeere, Embu County, Gachagua claimed that the President is using money as a tool to regain public trust during his countrywide tours.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader alleged that Ruto’s frequent donations and cash handouts were part of a calculated scheme to lure citizens back into supporting his government.
While addressing the gathering, Gachagua advised the residents to accept the money, since it belongs to taxpayers, but urged them not to repay the Head of State with their votes.
“As the leader of Mt Kenya, I know he will bring a lot of money to this region. We cannot bury an elephant with its tusks. Take the money because it is yours, but do not give him your votes,” Gachagua told the crowd.
He further reminded the people of Mt Kenya that they should punish Ruto politically for dismissing Justin Muturi, a son of the region, from the Cabinet.
During the event, Gachagua also made a bold pledge, saying he would work together with opposition figures and ordinary Kenyans to ensure President Ruto serves only one term in office.
He challenged Mt Kenya residents to resist the pressure from the current administration and to openly defy the influence of leaders allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Other leaders allied to Gachagua also spoke during the rally, criticizing the government and accusing it of engineering violence and intimidation. They claimed that chaos witnessed during Gachagua’s return to the country on Thursday was state-sponsored.
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa directly blamed President Ruto’s administration for the unrest, alleging that hired groups were used to disrupt the DCP leader’s arrival. “Now we know that it is you, William Ruto, who caused the violence during Gachagua’s arrival.
Why is it only Gachagua who is being attacked? This clearly shows that he is the real leader,” Karungo alleged.
Gachagua landed back in Kenya on Thursday, August 21, after his trip to the United States. His return was marked by a massive show of support as political allies and loyal followers gathered to welcome him.
However, the homecoming quickly turned chaotic when groups of youth attacked the procession along Mombasa Road. Journalists and other individuals were caught in the violence, with several sustaining injuries as they tried to cover the event.
Despite the tension, Gachagua’s message was clear: Mt Kenya should not be swayed by money or intimidation but should stand firm in charting its political future.
