A shocking incident has unfolded in Luanda, Vihiga County, where a police officer was allegedly shot and killed by his colleague while on duty. The tragic shooting happened at a government fertilizer depot, leaving residents and fellow officers in disbelief.
The officer who lost his life has been identified as Nicholas Samoei. According to reports, he sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, but the incident has already triggered a massive investigation.
How the Incident Happened
The two officers had been deployed to guard the Esirabe fertilizer depot when the tragedy occurred. Witnesses and police sources say that the two were in the middle of their night shift when gunshots rang out.
Initially, the colleague who is now the main suspect claimed that Samoei had taken his own life. However, this explanation quickly raised doubts, especially after the officer switched off his phone and disappeared shortly after making the claim.
Residents reported hearing gunfire between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.. When they went to check, they discovered Samoei lying on the ground with a bullet wound to the head. The gunshot is believed to have struck him in the face before exiting through the back of his head.
Police Investigation
Luanda Sub-County Police Commander Richard Siele, who visited the scene, confirmed that investigators recovered two firearms—one belonging to Samoei and the other to the missing officer. After careful examination, detectives ruled out suicide and concluded that Samoei was shot and killed.
“We found both guns, that of the deceased and that of his colleague who made the call. At first, it was suggested that the officer may have killed himself, but our investigations confirmed he did not. He was murdered, and the main suspect is his colleague who has since gone missing,” Commander Siele explained.
The police boss further revealed that the suspect was the last person seen with Samoei, making him the prime suspect.
Manhunt Underway
Security agencies have now launched a multi-agency manhunt to track down the officer on the run, who is believed to be armed and dangerous. Commander Siele has appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information that may help in tracing the fugitive.
“We are working around the clock to find him. This is now a criminal case, and the officer will face the full force of the law once arrested,” he said.
Community in Shock
The incident has left the community in Luanda shaken, as many residents expressed fear and confusion over how two colleagues entrusted with guarding a government facility could end up in such a deadly confrontation.
Samoei’s body has since been moved to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Police say they are still piecing together the motive behind the killing, as the reasons for the fatal shooting remain unknown.
