A shocking incident has rocked the University of Nairobi after a student allegedly stabbed his roommate to death following a heated argument over the use of their shared hostel washroom.
The suspect has since been arrested, and police are carrying out investigations into the tragic event.
According to witnesses, the disagreement began as a simple quarrel about who was responsible for cleaning the bathroom.
However, the exchange quickly escalated, drawing in friends of the victim. What started as a minor domestic issue within the hostel turned violent when the suspect allegedly reached for a weapon and attacked his roommate.
The victim, identified as a third-year student at the institution, sustained severe stab wounds. Fellow students and security officers rushed him to PCA Kikuyu Hospital in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed that he had died on arrival.
Omondi Ogola, a police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu, confirmed the incident. He explained that detectives had taken up the case to piece together the exact circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
“We received a report from security personnel at the University of Nairobi’s Kikuyu Campus that one student had stabbed another during a hostel dispute. The victim was rushed to hospital but sadly did not make it,” Ogola said.
He further added that preliminary investigations suggested the death resulted from a stab wound. Detectives are now working to understand what exactly triggered the fight and whether it was premeditated or purely a moment of rage.
Following swift action by police officers, DCI detectives, and members of the local community, the suspect was tracked down and arrested. Authorities also managed to recover the weapon believed to have been used in the killing.
“The police, DCI, and community worked hand in hand to ensure the suspect was apprehended. We also secured the suspected murder weapon. The suspect has already been taken to court, where we are seeking custodial orders to continue with our investigations,” Ogola stated.
Police revealed that while they have confirmed the suspect’s involvement, the actual motive for the attack has not yet been established. Detectives are now conducting interviews, collecting statements, and analyzing evidence to build a clear picture of what transpired.
Once the investigations are complete, the police say they will forward their recommendations to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for formal charges.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the university community, with students expressing fear and sadness over the violent turn of events in what should have been a simple domestic dispute.
