President William Ruto on Thursday, September 4, led Kenyans in paying tribute to the late Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Kikuyu Member of Parliament and Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah.

Mzee Ngugi, who was 105 years old, passed away early Thursday morning at his home in Kikuyu, Kiambu County. His passing marked the end of a long and remarkable life that had touched many people in his community and beyond.

In a heartfelt message, President Ruto described the late Ngugi as a hardworking and visionary man who played a big role in the growth and development of Kikuyu Town.

The Head of State praised him as an astute businessman and a generous leader who went out of his way to support the needy in society. Ruto added that Mzee Ngugi’s good deeds and sacrifices will be remembered for generations.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah.

He was industrious, astute, and one of the key founders of Kikuyu Town. His legacy will endure. Rest in peace, Mzee,” President Ruto wrote in his condolence message.

News of Mzee Ngugi’s death was first made public by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who announced it on Wednesday evening. Wetang’ula said the deceased passed on peacefully at his home, leaving behind a family and community that deeply valued his long life and guidance.

In his tribute, Wetang’ula described Mzee Ngugi as a pillar of strength, noting that his century-long journey was one filled with purpose and impact. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of the Majority, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi.

As we celebrate a life well lived, we pray that his legacy continues to inspire future generations. May the memories of his journey bring comfort during this time of grief,” Wetang’ula said.

Other leaders also joined in consoling the family. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen expressed his sorrow and offered his full support to Ichung’wah and his loved ones. “I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of my dear friend Kimani Ichung’wah following the passing of his father,

Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi. My prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times,” Murkomen wrote.

Kimani Ichung’wah, a close ally of President Ruto and one of the most influential figures in Parliament, has been a key player in pushing forward government policies.

His father’s death comes as a major loss not only to his family but also to the larger Kikuyu community, which remembers Mzee Ngugi as a man who stood for unity, progress, and compassion.

Mzee Ngugi’s passing is being mourned widely, with leaders and ordinary citizens alike recognising the values he upheld throughout his long life.

His legacy as a community builder and mentor remains firmly rooted in the history of Kikuyu and the nation at large.
