Former CS Issues Plea to President Ruto

Former CS Peninah Malonza Appeals to President Ruto Over Rising Insecurity

Former Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peninah Malonza has made a passionate appeal to President William Ruto, urging him to urgently intervene in the worsening insecurity crisis in Kitui County.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, September 4, Malonza revealed that she had already spoken to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo about the matter.

She expressed deep concern that residents, especially in Kitui South, were living in fear due to continuous attacks from armed bandits.

According to Malonza, the attackers have been raiding villages, torching houses, and even disrupting learning in several schools across the county. She further pointed out that lives have been lost in recent weeks as a result of these violent incidents, leaving families in grief and communities destabilized.

“I have personally called CS Murkomen and his PS to raise my concerns about the insecurity here,” Malonza stated. “When Deputy President Kithure Kindiki previously served as the Interior CS, he made sure the security officers in Kitui were well equipped with firearms to protect the people. But now, things have gone from bad to worse, and the government must act immediately.”

Malonza emphasized that the crisis could only be resolved if leaders from both the county and the national government came together to restore peace. “People are losing their lives, homes are being burned down, and families are being displaced. This is not the time for politics; it is the time for action,” she added.

President Ruto and Murkomen Under Pressure

President Ruto and CS Murkomen have in recent months come under heavy criticism over the government’s handling of security issues, as cases of violence and lawlessness continue to rise in different parts of the country.

The growing public frustration has seen citizens and local leaders demand stronger measures to protect communities vulnerable to attacks. Malonza’s call adds to the mounting pressure on the administration to respond swiftly and decisively.

Mandera Leaders Raise Alarm Over Alleged Jubaland Fighters

Meanwhile, leaders from Mandera County have also raised alarm over security threats in their region. They recently urged the government to investigate reports about the presence of Jubaland fighters allegedly operating within Mandera.

According to them, the presence of foreign forces poses a major risk to the safety and stability of the region.

However, CS Murkomen, while addressing the issue on Wednesday, August 4, dismissed these claims. He explained that intelligence reports suggest that the individuals in question are likely Somali civilians fleeing insecurity in their own country, rather than foreign troops.

Murkomen assured that investigations are already underway to confirm the identity of those entering Kenya. He stressed that if they are indeed found to be combatants or foreign forces, the government will take strong action against them.

He further said that if the individuals are confirmed to be civilians, Kenya will work hand-in-hand with Somalia’s government to ensure their safe return home.

“At this stage, we cannot confirm whether the people crossing into Kenya are civilians or fighters. Security agencies are still conducting a thorough analysis, and if we face any challenge, we will inform the nation. But as of now, there is no immediate threat,” Murkomen explained.

“The concerns raised by citizens have been taken seriously, and I want to assure the public that no school has been occupied by any group.

If there are cases of displaced people from Somalia entering Kenya, our security teams will handle the matter responsibly to make sure they are returned safely,” he added.
