The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has officially launched investigations into the cold-blooded killing of prominent Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was brutally shot dead on Tuesday evening by unknown gunmen along Magadi Road.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 10, the DCI confirmed that a special team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the crime scene under the leadership of the Nairobi Regional Criminal Intelligence Officer (RCIO).

The officers quickly secured the area before experts from the Homicide Bureau and the National Forensic Laboratory were brought in to comb through the scene, collect crucial evidence, and reconstruct the chain of events that led to the shocking attack.

“The DCI is fully committed to ensuring that those behind this heinous act are identified, tracked down, and brought to justice.

Our investigators are deploying every available resource, including advanced forensic tools, to get to the bottom of this matter,” the statement read.

The detectives further urged Kenyans to remain calm as investigations continue, assuring the public—and Mbobu’s grieving family—that justice would be pursued without compromise.

To speed up the process, they appealed to anyone with credible information about the murder to report immediately to the nearest police station.

So far, no arrests have been made, and detectives are still trying to piece together the motive behind the killing.

According to preliminary findings, Mbobu had spent the day in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), where he attended a meeting at one of the city hotels with individuals who are yet to be identified. After that, he proceeded to another meeting within the CBD before leaving for his residence.

On his way home, Mbobu drove through Lang’ata Road and branched off into Magadi Road, intending to connect to Gataka Road via the Catholic University of Eastern Africa route. It was here, during a traffic jam along Magadi Road, that two assailants riding on a motorcycle approached his vehicle and opened fire.

Police reports indicate that the gunmen took advantage of the standstill traffic to carry out the assassination, firing multiple shots at close range.

Three used cartridges were recovered at the scene, with forensic officers confirming that Mbobu was shot five times in the head, dying instantly.

The murder has sent shockwaves across Nairobi’s legal community and beyond, with calls mounting for the government to speed up investigations and guarantee the safety of professionals who may be targeted by criminal networks.
