Senator Chesang Calls for Content Creators to Promote Government Projects
Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has called on the government to involve content creators in promoting its projects, policies, and flagship developments.
Chesang, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Senate ICT Committee, said that working with content creators, especially those with a large online following, would not only empower them but also help expand Kenya’s digital presence on the global stage.
The senator made these remarks during the launch of Konza Technopolis on Thursday, September 11. He described the project as a major milestone and a key driver in turning Kenya into a digital powerhouse.
Konza Technopolis is one of the country’s flagship projects under Kenya Vision 2030 and is being implemented through the Ministry of ICT. Designed as a modern science and technology park, it sits on 5,000 acres of land about 60 kilometers from Nairobi.
The development includes innovative projects such as renewable energy systems, affordable housing, modern conferencing facilities, and other smart infrastructure that aim to position the city as a leading hub of innovation.
“Let us make use of content creators to tell Kenyans, particularly the youth, about government projects, policies, and the story of Konza. By involving them, we will not only be creating opportunities for content creators but also showcasing to the world what Kenya is achieving,” Chesang said.
He further emphasized that empowering content creators should be seen as part of the wider job creation agenda for the youth. “If we are serious about giving jobs to young people, we should start by supporting content creators who can spread the message of what the government is doing. This will give them meaningful work while also amplifying Kenya’s story globally,” he added.
ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo also spoke at the launch, stressing that Konza Technopolis would be a catalyst for economic growth in several sectors. He said the smart city would boost tourism, attract new investments, and support industrial development.
“Through strong Public-Private Partnerships and a coordinated government approach, we are committed to making Konza Africa’s largest smart city and a global hub of innovation. Konza Technopolis is the next frontier for technology, tourism, and investment,” Kabogo stated.
The launch comes just two months after the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) approved the creation of the Konza National Drone Corridor — the first regulated airspace in Kenya specifically designated for drone operations.
According to the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), which issued a statement on Wednesday, July 9, the drone corridor will play a critical role in enabling safe long-range drone flights in the country.
KoTDA further noted that the corridor will provide opportunities for institutions to test and train advanced drone technologies in a controlled environment.
To ensure smooth operations, a skilled Corridor Operations Coordinator will manage the airspace. The official will be responsible for ensuring compliance with aviation regulations, optimizing efficiency, and maintaining the highest standards of safety.
