Raila Sends Kasmuel to Represent ODM at the European Parliament

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League leader, Kasmuel McOure, has confirmed that he has been chosen to represent the ODM party at the European Parliament and other international institutions in Brussels, Belgium.

Making the announcement on his official X account on Sunday, September 14, McOure expressed his gratitude to the European Union in Kenya and ODM leader Raila Odinga for giving him the chance to take part in this important mission.

Kasmuel explained that the trip will give him a rare opportunity to interact with global leaders and learn from their experiences. He noted that the insights and knowledge he will gather in Brussels will help him strengthen ODM and contribute to its growth once he returns home.

“I have just arrived in Brussels to represent the ODM party at the European Parliament and other key institutions. This opportunity comes courtesy of the European Union in Kenya and H.E. Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, who has always taught us that excellence must be pursued relentlessly and without excuse,” Kasmuel stated.

“I look forward to engaging with world leaders, learning best practices, and bringing these lessons back to Kenya to make our mighty party even stronger,” he added.

This latest achievement comes only three months after Kasmuel was selected among 41 Kenyan youths to join the prestigious 2025 Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) in the United States.

The MWF is a flagship programme of the U.S. government that targets promising young leaders across Africa. It provides them with advanced training in leadership and academic skills, while also creating space for networking with other young professionals from across the continent.

According to a statement released by the United States Embassy in Nairobi on Monday, June 16, the fellowship is designed for Africans aged between 25 and 35 years. Participants benefit from six weeks of training in American universities, where they gain new skills, exchange ideas, and build connections that can support their leadership journeys.

The 2025 fellowship, which took place between June 18 and July 29, brought together 650 young Africans from different countries and professional fields. The participants came from diverse backgrounds such as business, media, science, and public service.

This year’s programme was hosted by 26 leading educational institutions across 21 U.S. states. During their training, the fellows were divided into three key areas of focus — business leadership, civic leadership, and public management.

This structure allowed them to specialize in their chosen fields while collaborating and sharing their own expertise with others.

The U.S. Embassy further highlighted the remarkable talent showcased by Kenyan participants in the programme.

“From journalists and novelists to scientists and entrepreneurs, the newest Mandela Washington Fellows are established professionals who demonstrate Kenya’s incredible depth and diversity of talent,” the embassy stated.

“They come from all parts of the country, including Turkana, Kisii, Laikipia, Nairobi, Isiolo, Mombasa, Kiambu, and many more.

Despite their different professions and hometowns, they share one common goal — a deep passion for building stronger communities and shaping a better future for Kenya,” the embassy added.
