Ruto Breathing Fire in Kilifi After Gachagua Declares 2027 Bid
President William Ruto has come out strongly in Kilifi, sending a stern warning after his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua openly declared that he will contest for the presidency in 2027.
During his address in Kilifi County, Ruto expressed clear displeasure over Gachagua’s self-endorsement, accusing him of disrupting the government’s development agenda with premature succession politics.
The President reminded leaders allied to Gachagua that his administration was elected to serve Kenyans until 2027, not to engage in endless campaigns.
Ruto stressed that he would not allow anyone to destabilize the government, warning that political fights within the ruling coalition risk derailing progress in key sectors such as agriculture, health, and infrastructure.
He also appealed to coastal residents to remain focused on development rather than getting drawn into political divisions.
The warning comes only days after Gachagua announced his presidential ambitions, declaring himself a frontrunner for the 2027 race.
Gachagua, who was impeached from the deputy presidency last year, has since positioned himself as a strong critic of Ruto’s administration, accusing the government of corruption and poor leadership.
Analysts say the public fallout between the President and his former deputy is a clear sign of a widening rift that could reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027.
While Ruto is seeking to consolidate his base in different regions, Gachagua is equally moving across the country to popularize his bid, setting the stage for a heated contest.
In Kilifi, Ruto made it clear that he intends to defend his seat and warned political rivals that the 2027 election will not be handed to them on a silver platter.
