UDA MP Was Beaten Like Mburukenge by Angry Wananchi During a Fake ‘Empowerment Programme.’ Watch

UDA MP Japhet Nyakundi Beaten by Residents in Kisii

UDA Member of Parliament Japhet Nyakundi of Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County, was roughed up by angry residents during what has been described as a fake “empowerment programme.” The incident left the MP humiliated, with locals accusing him of misleading the community with false promises.

Witnesses said Nyakundi had arrived to preside over the event, which was allegedly meant to distribute support to residents. However, tension quickly escalated after word spread that the programme was not genuine.

The crowd turned hostile, confronting the legislator and accusing him of taking advantage of the public. In the chaos, the MP was beaten by a section of wananchi before his security team intervened to rescue him.

The confrontation has raised fresh questions about the growing mistrust between elected leaders and citizens.

Residents expressed frustration over what they termed as empty pledges and political theatrics, warning leaders against using “empowerment” forums as a way of gaining political mileage without delivering real benefits.

Previous Altercation

This is not the first time Japhet Nyakundi has found himself in the middle of controversy. In September 2025, he was involved in a physical altercation with Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi during a funeral service in Kisii.

The clash began after Kibagendi accused President William Ruto of being dishonest. Nyakundi, who was the MC at the event, tried to cut him short, leading to a heated scuffle on the podium before security officers stepped in.

Growing Pressure on Leaders

The latest incident shows the growing pressure on politicians as citizens demand accountability. Analysts warn that repeated confrontations between leaders and the public could signal deepening frustrations over unfulfilled promises in the region.
