The body of police officer Kennedy Mutuko Nzuve, who passed away in Haiti, arrived in Kenya on the evening of September 26, 2025. The remains landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, where they were formally received.

Corporal Nzuve died on September 1, 2025, after being involved in a deadly road accident while serving abroad.

Senior officials from the National Police Service (NPS) led the reception ceremony. The delegation was headed by the Commandant of the National Police College Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, accompanied by Isaac Alimaa, SAIG, and members of the late officer’s family.

Nzuve had been deployed to Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), a peace and security operation involving Kenyan officers and other international personnel. His death occurred during his tour of duty.

After the reception at the airport, the body was moved to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation as the family and NPS begin burial preparations.

In their official communication, the NPS confirmed that funeral plans are underway and further updates will be issued once arrangements are finalized.

“Following the reception, the body was transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation. Burial arrangements will be communicated at a later date,” the statement noted.

The police service also offered its sympathy and assured the family of full support during this difficult time.

“The National Police Service conveys its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer and assures them of its unwavering support during this period of profound sorrow,” the NPS said.

Kenya deployed several police officers to Haiti in June 2024 as part of the MSSM effort aimed at restoring stability in the troubled Caribbean nation.

Missing Officer Confirmed Dead After Six Months

In a separate tragedy, another Kenyan police officer who had been missing for months has been confirmed dead. Benedict Kabiru, who disappeared in March 2025, was officially reported dead this week.

Kabiru was abducted by a criminal gang that attacked him and his team while they were on duty in Haiti. The ambush occurred on March 25, 2025, along the Carrefour Paye–Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of the Artibonite Department.

For six months, his whereabouts remained unknown. On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the NPS released a statement confirming they had received credible information about his death, and his family had been informed.

“The officer had been reported missing while on duty the previous day, on March 25, following an ambush on the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of the Artibonite Department,” the statement explained.

“In a tragic turn of events, the National Police Service (NPS) received information regarding the death of the missing police officer, and the family has been notified,” it added.

Kabiru’s death adds to the growing concerns about the safety of Kenyan officers serving in high-risk international missions.
