Tanzanian gospel singer Christina Shusho has moved many hearts after releasing a deeply emotional song in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The song, titled “Pumzika Baba”, serves as a touching farewell to Odinga and reflects on his remarkable legacy in Kenya and across Africa.
Through powerful lyrics and soulful melodies, Shusho celebrates Odinga’s lifelong dedication to leadership, justice, and the fight for democracy. She acknowledges his courage, resilience, and the impact he made throughout his political journey.
“Kenya Is My Second Home,” Says Shusho
In a statement shared on Friday, October 17, Shusho expressed her deep condolences to Kenyans, saying her ministry had grown significantly because of the support she received from the Kenyan people.
“Kenya is my second home. My Ministry has immensely grown through the support of my Kenyan family. I stand with you as we celebrate this great son of Africa, Raila Odinga. I had to do this for Kenyans,” she said.
Her tribute has been widely embraced by fans, adding a spiritual and comforting tone to the outpouring of messages from across the continent as Africa mourns one of its most influential political leaders.
Other Artists Join in Honouring Odinga
Shusho is not alone in using music to honour Raila Odinga’s memory. Several artists have also released songs to celebrate his life and legacy:
- Kenyan rapper King Kaka recently shared a moving tribute track dedicated to the ODM leader.
- Benga star Prince Indah also released a heartfelt musical piece in Odinga’s honour.
Music was a significant part of Raila Odinga’s life. He often sang during public events and was fond of classic tunes. One of his favourite songs was “Jamaican Farewell” by Harry Belafonte, which carries the emotional line:
“But I am sad to say, I’m on my way, won’t be back for many a day…”
This line now holds even deeper meaning as Kenyans and Africans reflect on the departure of a man who touched millions with his voice, his vision, and his unwavering spirit.
Christina Shusho’s tribute has not only comforted many but also reinforced the bond between Kenya and Tanzania through music, faith, and shared history.
