During a recent church service in Kisumu, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made strong remarks touching on leadership, national unity, and the fight against crime and drugs.
The event drew attention after his speech went viral online, with some claiming he had made controversial comments about Raila Odinga.
However, official reports from credible news outlets show that Murkomen focused mainly on governance, security, and moral leadership rather than personal attacks.
Murkomen began his address by revealing that security agencies had seized more than one tonne of methamphetamine worth about KSh 8 billion at the Coast.
He said the government would destroy the drugs publicly to send a clear message that Kenya would not tolerate narcotics or those profiting from them.
He stressed that drug trafficking was destroying the lives of young people and feeding criminal networks that destabilize communities.
The CS warned that anyone—regardless of political influence or social standing—found involved in such illegal trade would face the full force of the law.
He emphasized that the war on drugs and corruption was a national duty and urged Kenyans to support government agencies in upholding justice and transparency.
Murkomen also called on leaders to act responsibly and lead by example, saying that politics should not be used to divide the nation.
He urged leaders to focus on service delivery, unity, and moral guidance. In his message to the youth, he encouraged them to stay away from drugs and embrace hard work, faith, and discipline to build a better future.
He went on to acknowledge that seasoned leaders like Raila Odinga had, over the years, shaped the political landscape and guided many young politicians.
Murkomen noted that Raila played a mentorship role in his early political journey and taught him valuable lessons about perseverance and leadership, even though they now stand on different political sides.
The CS concluded his Kisumu address by calling for peace and cooperation among all leaders, saying that Kenya’s progress depends on unity and respect among political players.
He assured citizens that his ministry would continue strengthening internal security, fighting drugs, and promoting a safe environment for all Kenyans.
