“Wewe Githinji!” Gachagua Breaks Silence, Fires Warning at Ruto
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally spoken out after several weeks of silence, breaking his political calm with a fiery attack aimed at President William Ruto.
Speaking on Saturday afternoon in Murang’a County, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader accused the President of betrayal, mismanagement, and abandoning the people who supported him most.
Gachagua, who had kept a low profile for nearly a month, declared that he was fully prepared to face off with President Ruto in the 2027 general election.
The former DP warned the Head of State to get ready for a serious political battle, insisting that Kenyans were tired of what he described as failed leadership and broken promises.
While addressing residents during the burial of six family members who lost their lives in a tragic road accident, Gachagua did not mince his words.
He directly attacked Ruto using a new nickname, “Githinji,” accusing him of betraying the Mt Kenya region despite their overwhelming support during the 2022 presidential election.
“You, Githinji, we stood with you. We voted for you with love and hope. You became President because of us, but now you have turned your back on us.
You lied to us and have gone ahead to frustrate the very people who made you who you are,” Gachagua stated emotionally.
He went on to accuse the President of using some Mt Kenya leaders who are loyal to the government to ridicule and insult him and other prominent figures from the region, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Martha Karua, and former Attorney General Justin Muturi.
“Now you are sending your allies to mock us. They are insulting our leaders — me, Uhuru Kenyatta, Martha Karua, Muturi, and even Linturi. You have allowed your close friends to disrespect our community,” he said.
Gachagua further warned Ruto that the Mt Kenya region’s patience was running out, promising that their frustration and anger would be clearly seen during the next general election. “I want to tell Ruto that we are not bad people.
You are the one making us look bad. On August 8, 2027, you will see the full weight of our disappointment,” he warned.
In his address, Gachagua also criticized the current state of the country, accusing President Ruto’s administration of interfering with critical national sectors such as education and healthcare.
He claimed that Kenyans were suffering under unnecessary policy changes that were destabilizing important public services.
His remarks came just two days after President Ruto took a swipe at the opposition, accusing them of spreading divisive politics meant to undermine national unity.
Speaking in Kakamega County on Thursday, October 30, Ruto challenged opposition leaders to present practical ideas and policies instead of relying on what he termed as “empty political noise.”
Gachagua’s latest outburst marks a significant escalation in the growing political tension between him and the President. It also signals the possibility of an intensified political showdown as the country slowly gears toward the 2027 elections.
