IG Douglas Kanja Announces Key Changes in Upcoming Police Recruitment
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has released a new notice making several corrections and additions to the ongoing mass police recruitment process. The updates, announced on Friday, November 7, come just a few days after the initial advertisement was published on Tuesday, November 4.
In the revised statement, IG Kanja clarified that the recruitment exercise will not only target current National Youth Service (NYS) trainees but will also consider former NYS members who previously completed their service.
He encouraged all former NYS candidates interested in joining the National Police Service to present themselves at their respective home sub-county recruitment centres or at the NYS Headquarters located in Ruaraka, Nairobi County.
The Inspector General also made adjustments to some of the recruitment venues that had been incorrectly listed in the previous notice. In Kajiado West Sub-County, the recruitment will now take place at Ole Polos Centre.
In Elangata Wuas, the venue has been changed to the Deputy County Commissioner’s Office, while in Narok West Sub-County, the recruitment will be held at Ng’osuani Centre. Kanja emphasized that all other details from the earlier announcement remain unchanged, including the recruitment date.
He further reminded applicants that all interested candidates must download and fill out the official application form available on the National Police Service (NPS) website.
After completing the form, applicants are required to physically report to their designated recruitment centres with both original and photocopies of their academic certificates, along with their national identification cards.
To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet several requirements. They must be Kenyan citizens with valid national IDs, aged between 18 and 28 years, and must have attained at least a D+ grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
Additionally, candidates are expected to be physically and medically fit to handle the demands of police service.
Male applicants should have a minimum height of 5 feet 8 inches, while female applicants should be at least 5 feet 3 inches tall. All candidates must also possess a clean criminal record, with no prior convictions.
Kanja assured the public that the recruitment process is completely free and fair, cautioning against any attempts to use bribery or corruption to influence the process.
He made it clear that any person found engaging in corrupt activities, whether through giving or receiving bribes, will face legal consequences.
The Inspector General also issued a stern warning to individuals who may attempt to present false or misleading information during the recruitment process.
He stressed that providing such information is a serious offence and that anyone caught doing so will be prosecuted according to the law.
Kanja concluded by reaffirming the police service’s commitment to conducting a transparent and merit-based recruitment exercise aimed at attracting qualified, disciplined, and patriotic Kenyans who are ready to serve their country with integrity and dedication.
