Kalonzo Musyoka Condemns Samia Suluhu Over Killings of Kenyans in Tanzania, Calls Her Rule Dictatorial
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly condemned the killing and jailing of Kenyans during the recent protests in Tanzania, accusing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government of sliding into dictatorship.
Kalonzo expressed outrage after reports confirmed that several Kenyans were among those shot dead or arrested as Tanzanian police cracked down on protesters demanding justice and transparency.
The unrest, which erupted after the disputed Tanzanian elections, left hundreds dead and many others injured, drawing international concern over human rights violations.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, Kalonzo said the actions by Tanzanian authorities were not only cruel but a clear violation of human rights and international law.
“Kenyans and Tanzanians are brothers and sisters. Killing innocent people, including our citizens, for exercising their right to protest is unacceptable. This is not leadership — it is dictatorship in the making,” Kalonzo said firmly.
He further called on the East African Community (EAC) and the African Union (AU) to take urgent action to stop what he termed “a dangerous return to tyranny” in the region.
According to Kalonzo, Tanzania’s actions have undermined regional unity and the principles of democracy that East African nations claim to uphold.
“President Samia must remember that power belongs to the people. Using state machinery to silence citizens only deepens the wounds of oppression,” he added.
The former Vice President urged Kenya’s government to demand accountability from Tanzania and to ensure that the rights of Kenyan nationals living or working there are protected.
Human rights organizations have also echoed similar concerns, accusing Tanzanian authorities of using excessive force against protesters and detaining activists without trial.
Opposition groups in Tanzania claim that over 700 people have been killed since the demonstrations began, while the United Nations has confirmed several deaths and expressed alarm over the situation.
As regional leaders continue to react, Kalonzo’s bold criticism has stirred debate over the silence of other top Kenyan politicians on the issue. Many citizens have praised him for speaking out where others have chosen diplomacy over justice.
