The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has firmly dismissed any possibility of teaming up with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in future political partnerships or formations.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Sunday, November 9, ODM Youth League leader Kasmuel McOure made it clear that Gachagua’s political ideologies and values completely differ from those of ODM, making any form of cooperation unrealistic.
Kasmuel emphasized that the ODM Youth League remains committed to defending the party’s principles and will continue to challenge any attempts by members or outsiders to push for an alliance with Gachagua.
“No matter how progressive a leader may seem, whether from within our ODM ranks or from outside, they cannot convince us to work with Rigathi Gachagua,” Kasmuel stated.
“We will continue to put pressure on those among us who seem sympathetic to his style of politics and who try to persuade us by saying it is ‘strategic’ to avoid provoking him,” he added.
According to Kasmuel, Gachagua’s political approach, which he described as “backward and divisive,” has significantly contributed to instability within Kenya’s political environment.
He said the country’s political space needs to move forward through progressive and inclusive leadership rather than reverting to outdated regional politics.
The ODM Youth League leader further assured party supporters that ODM will continue to cooperate with President William Ruto’s government under the existing broad-based arrangement — a framework inspired by the vision and leadership of the late Raila Odinga.
He said this partnership aims to serve the interests of Kenyans while keeping the government accountable.
“We shall remain within the Broad-Based Arrangement that Raila Odinga guided us into, and we will continue to push for all the necessary reforms to build a more prosperous and united Kenya under this framework,” Kasmuel affirmed.
He also urged ODM’s elected leaders to involve young people more actively in decision-making and development processes, stressing that the youth must be included meaningfully rather than being given empty promises.
“Every ODM leader must carry out this duty diligently while ensuring the youth are part of every step. We will continue to call out leaders, regardless of their rank, who only offer lip service without real youth engagement,” he noted.
Kasmuel also reminded the Kenya Kwanza administration that ODM will not relent in demanding accountability.
He insisted that the government must fulfill its promises to ODM and Kenyans — including delivering on economic empowerment, social development, police reforms, and compensation for victims of police brutality.
“You must work tirelessly to ensure these promises are met. That is our only condition for continuing to support this broad-based government as the youth of ODM,” Kasmuel concluded.
The statement reflects ODM’s firm stance against aligning with Gachagua’s political camp while reaffirming its commitment to reform, accountability, and inclusive governance in Kenya.
