CS Geoffrey Ruku Fires Back at Rigathi Gachagua Over Election Violence Allegations

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has sharply responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claims of an alleged plot to cause violence in the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary elections.

On Wednesday, Gachagua alleged that certain government officials were organizing groups to instigate chaos during the November 27 by-election in Mbeere North.

He specifically mentioned Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and CS Ruku, accusing them of being behind the supposed plans.

Speaking during his address, Gachagua called on the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to move swiftly, investigate the allegations, and ensure that anyone involved in such activities faces justice.

He warned that the integrity of the election must not be compromised by acts of intimidation or violence.

However, in a strongly worded response issued on Thursday, November 13, CS Ruku dismissed Gachagua’s accusations as “pure theatrics,” saying the remarks were not only misleading but also politically charged.

Ruku described Gachagua’s claims as an attempt to spread hate and stir unnecessary public tension ahead of the polls.

According to Ruku, if Gachagua genuinely believed that such a plot existed, the right step would have been to report the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) instead of writing a letter to the Inspector General of Police.

“Gachagua is fully aware that the DCI is the legal authority responsible for receiving, recording, and investigating complaints from the public before recommending the next course of action,” Ruku stated.

“His letter to IG Douglas Kanja seems more like a stage-managed performance than a genuine pursuit of justice,” he added.

The Public Service CS went further to accuse Gachagua of using false claims to manipulate public emotions and attract sympathy. He argued that the former Deputy President was trying to portray himself as a victim of government persecution while tarnishing the reputations of others for political mileage.

Ruku also accused Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), of planning a visit to Mbeere North to allegedly spread more hate speech and incite locals against the government.

“Gachagua’s planned tour of Mbeere North is not about peace or development—it is purely meant to amplify his hate-filled statements and promote disrespect towards President William Ruto and other leaders,” Ruku said.

He urged local residents to focus on real development issues such as improving access to clean water, upgrading roads, and strengthening the education sector instead of being swayed by divisive politics.

“Mbeere North deserves leaders who will bring solutions to its challenges, not politicians who thrive on spreading hate and conflict,” Ruku emphasized.

The upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary election is expected to be highly contested, with political temperatures already rising. Ruku’s remarks now add to the growing political tension as both camps trade accusations just weeks before the polls.
