Popular media personality Oga Obinna has revealed that President William Ruto stepped in to block an alleged plan targeting him shortly after he conducted a high-profile interview with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on May 16.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Monday, Obinna said he received reliable information that a rogue group was preparing to harm him because of the interview.
According to him, the President personally intervened and warned those involved not to proceed with their plan.
Obinna explained that several sources confirmed the same information to him—an external insider who was physically present when the discussion happened, a well-known media figure, and another individual who is reportedly close to the President.
“After that interview with Riggy G, I was told there were people planning to harm me. The person who stopped them was the President,” Obinna said.
“An external source who was in the room told me exactly what the President said: ‘Leave the young man alone. If we start beating up young people, what are we doing? He has done nothing wrong.
Let him continue with his work. Nobody should touch him.’ These were the exact words,” he added, insisting the source was extremely credible.
Before receiving this confirmation, Obinna said he had already been warned by a prominent journalist who told him to be cautious. The journalist allegedly informed him that a rogue squad was monitoring him closely and had details about his movements, making the threat seem even more real.
Obinna added that another person with what he described as “deep state connections” recently told him the same story. For him, hearing the same message from different credible people convinced him that the President had indeed stepped in to stop a possible attack.
During the lengthy interview with Gachagua in May, the former DP discussed his falling-out with President Ruto, starting from the events leading up to the 2022 General Election when Ruto first approached him for political support.
Gachagua also talked about what happened after his impeachment, including corruption accusations and the violence that erupted during the launch of his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). The interview lasted more than three hours and revealed many behind-the-scenes details.
Immediately after the interview, Obinna and his team admitted they were anxious as they travelled back, worried that they might face consequences for asking tough questions.
“Every time we reached a police roadblock, I panicked,” Obinna recalled, laughing nervously with his crew. “There were so many of them. I didn’t even want to drive home that night. Pray for me—I brought this on myself!”
