Drama as Seth Panyako Breaks Down During Malava By-Election
There was tense drama in Malava Constituency after DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako broke down emotionally during the ongoing by-election.
The incident happened shortly before he cast his vote, drawing the attention of voters, officials, and security officers at the polling station.
According to reports from the ground, Panyako claimed that he and his team were attacked the previous night by unknown individuals whom he described as “goons.”
He accused them of threatening his life, assaulting his staff, damaging vehicles, and attempting to block his campaign operations ahead of the poll. The candidate said he had been living in fear and that the continuous intimidation had taken a heavy emotional toll on him.
Panyako also raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the election. He questioned why his voting stream had been changed despite using the same register for years.
He further claimed that there were attempts to influence the vote through voter bribery and intimidation, insisting that the election was not being conducted fairly.
Despite his emotional state, Panyako proceeded to cast his ballot. The by-election has attracted national attention due to the strong competition between him and UDA’s David Ndakwa.
There have been rumours circulating online claiming that Panyako “ran mad” after realising he had mistakenly voted for Ndakwa.
However, no reliable source has confirmed this claim, and it appears to be social-media misinformation. What is confirmed is that the candidate was overwhelmed, emotional, and deeply frustrated by the incidents he says took place before and during election day.
The Malava by-election continues under tight security as residents await the final results.
