Justin Muturi Clashes With Youth After Forcing Wamuthende’s Agent Out of Polling Station

A dramatic incident unfolded at Siakago Social Hall in Mbeere North during Thursday’s by-election when National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi became involved in a heated confrontation after ejecting an agent representing UDA candidate Leonard Wa Muthende.

How the Chaos Started

According to eyewitness reports from the polling centre, tensions rose after Muturi confronted Thuku Kiruga, the UDA agent, accusing him of violating election rules by entering the polling station while wearing a yellow jacket associated with the UDA party.

Muturi argued that agents must remain neutral inside polling stations and should not display party colours or branded clothing.

When poll officials allegedly failed to act, Muturi moved forward with supporters and forcefully removed the agent from the hall.

In the process, he also confronted a young man who was accompanying the agent, sparking a brief scuffle that drew attention from voters and security officers.

Confrontation With a Youth Sparks Online Debate

The confrontation with the young man — who many online users have referred to as a Gen-Z voter — caused an uproar outside the polling centre. Witnesses say the youth attempted to question why the agent was being ejected, leading to a heated exchange with Muturi.

Although there was no full fight, the tense verbal clash quickly spread across social platforms, with some posts claiming that Muturi “attacked” the youth during the chaos.

At the time of reporting, no official complaint had been filed with the police regarding the alleged assault, and no arrests had been confirmed.

Muturi Defends His Actions

Speaking shortly after the incident, Muturi defended his decision, insisting that he was safeguarding election integrity.

He stated that wearing party colours inside a polling station is illegal and claimed the presiding officer refused to enforce the rule.

Muturi further accused UDA of attempting to disrupt the by-election and intimidate voters, saying the party had “imported goons” and was trying to influence the process illegally.

Tense Political Atmosphere in Mbeere North

The by-election in Mbeere North has been highly charged, with both DP (Democratic Party) — which Muturi is associated with — and UDA trading accusations of bribery, intimidation, and attempts to manipulate the polls.

Earlier in the day, other centres in the county experienced confrontations, adding to fears of election-day violence.

What Happens Next

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to review the events at Siakago Social Hall and determine whether Muturi’s actions breached election guidelines or interfered with the voting process.

Meanwhile, videos and photos circulating online have intensified political tensions, with supporters from both sides accusing each other of provoking the incident.
