Governor Wanga Calls for Resignation of Some County Officials Amid Fallout With Deputy

Governor Wanga Demands Resignation of County Officials Amid Rift With Deputy

Tensions have sharply risen in Homa Bay County as Governor Gladys Wanga openly challenged her critics within the county government, following a public fallout with her deputy, Oyugi Magwanga.

During a rally in Homa Bay, Governor Wanga urged Magwanga and other county officials who oppose her leadership to step down, making room for individuals who are willing to fully cooperate with her administration.

She stressed that those serving in her government have no moral ground to criticize it, and insisted that loyalty, discipline, and dedication are mandatory for all county officers.

“One cannot be part of this administration and at the same time speak negatively about it. Leading a government is not easy, and it requires commitment and respect from everyone involved,” Wanga said, highlighting the challenges of her position.

The governor recounted the struggles she faced on her path to leadership, revealing the personal sacrifices she made to attain the county’s top position.

“I travelled across the county extensively and even used my own resources to secure the governorship. If I employ you to serve in this government, you are expected to follow the rules and work diligently,” she added.

Wanga also issued a firm warning to county officials, stating that she would no longer tolerate internal disagreements or insubordination. She vowed to take decisive action against anyone unwilling to cooperate with her administration.

“When officials feel exhausted or unable to work with this government, they should resign and allow others to take their place,” she asserted. She added, “From now on, I will be firm.

Anyone who does not want to work in my administration will be asked to resign, and I will ensure that those positions are given to committed individuals.”

The governor’s remarks come in the wake of her disagreement with Deputy Governor Magwanga, who recently broke ranks by supporting an Independent candidate, Philip Aroko, in the Kasipul parliamentary by-election.

This move directly contradicted Wanga’s campaigns for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate, Boyd Were.

Magwanga openly criticized the ODM nomination process that led to Were’s candidacy, describing it as unfair and lacking transparency.

His decision to campaign for an opposing candidate marked a significant public rift between the governor and her deputy, drawing attention to growing internal divisions within the county government.

The situation in Homa Bay now raises questions about the stability and cohesion of the county leadership, as the governor takes a no-nonsense approach to ensure alignment and discipline within her team.

Observers note that this showdown between Wanga and Magwanga could have wider implications for local politics, especially as elections and party dynamics continue to evolve in the region.
