Mosiria Breaks Silence, Reveals Circumstances that Led to His Demotion

Mosiria Speaks Out, Explains What Led to His Demotion

Nairobi Chief County Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has finally spoken about the events that led to his removal from the county’s environment department. In a detailed explanation given on Monday, December 1, Mosiria said the decision to move him was not unexpected.

He explained that his strict enforcement style put him on a collision path with several powerful people in Nairobi who were unhappy with his actions.

According to Mosiria, his transfer from the environment docket to the citizen engagement and customer service department happened because he repeatedly confronted individuals he described as “untouchable.”

These were people behind illegal constructions and unlawful developments in the city. He claimed that his efforts to stop these activities angered a section of influential individuals who did not want anyone questioning their projects.

He revealed that during his time in the environment docket, he halted several illegal constructions, including one belonging to a “very influential and wealthy individual.” This particular case, he said, caused serious frustration among those involved and contributed heavily to the push for his removal.

“I stepped on the toes of the untouchables. I did not fear them because I only fear God. I stopped many illegal structures, even one that belonged to a very powerful person, and that did not sit well with them,” Mosiria stated.

The officer recounted incidents where some developers had begun building on riverbanks and operating noisy entertainment clubs without approval.

He explained that he shut down these establishments after receiving constant public complaints. According to him, his actions were strictly guided by the law and the concerns of Nairobi residents, not politics or personal interests.

Despite being shifted to a different role, Mosiria insisted that he does not consider the change a setback. He maintained that his focus remains on serving the people of Nairobi and delivering meaningful results regardless of the office he occupies.

“My commitment is still the same. Whether I am in environment or citizen engagement, I only look at how best we can deliver services to the people,” he affirmed.

His remarks come two weeks after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja made major changes to the county leadership structure. In the reshuffle, Mosiria was moved from the environment docket, and Hibram Otieno—who previously oversaw medical facilities—was appointed to replace him.

Before his transfer, Mosiria had been conducting frequent inspections across the city, leading to the closure of several illegal businesses and residential buildings. These operations earned him praise from some residents but also put him at odds with individuals benefiting from unlawful developments.

Mosiria’s latest comments paint a picture of an officer who believes he was targeted for choosing to enforce the law without fear or favour. Still, he says he will continue serving Nairobians with the same energy and dedication in his new role.
