Elders Criticise Governor Wanga as Tensions Rise in Homa Bay
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga is facing increasing pressure after a group of elders from the county raised strong concerns about her recent conduct and public statements.
The elders, mainly from the Rachuonyo community, expressed their frustrations on Wednesday, December 3, saying that a number of issues surrounding the governor had caused growing discomfort among local leaders and residents.
The elders accused Governor Wanga of disrespecting and sidelining local leaders as well as government officials in matters that require unity and cooperation.
They argued that her approach, especially during the Kasipul by-election, did not reflect the kind of leadership expected from the county’s top office. They felt that her remarks before and after the by-election created tension instead of bringing people together at a sensitive political moment.
According to the elders, some of the governor’s comments appeared divisive and might fuel unnecessary conflicts within Homa Bay.
They specifically questioned her decision to publicly highlight the money spent during the by-election, saying it was unclear whether the funds came from her personal resources or from public coffers.
“Your recent statements do not reflect the dignity and responsibility that come with leadership,” one of the elders challenged. “When you mentioned the money used in the by-election, was it your own money or funds meant for the public? These are the issues people are now asking about.”
The elders urged the governor to exercise more caution, show respect to other leaders, and focus on uniting the county instead of causing further divisions.
They emphasized that leaders must act in ways that inspire confidence, promote peace, and strengthen relationships within the community.
