UDA MCA Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum Dies While Receiving Treatment in Nairobi
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of County Assembly for Endo Ward in Baringo County, Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, has passed away while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital after a prolonged illness.
Kibiwott, who was widely known by residents as Jeremiah Biwott or Jeremiah Toriebe, had been serving as the elected MCA for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County since 2022.
His death has come as a shock to many people in the region, especially those who worked closely with him in leadership and community development.
The sad news was officially confirmed by the Speaker of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly, Lawi Kibire, who described Kibiwott’s passing as a major loss to the County Assembly and to the people of Endo Ward.
The Speaker praised the late MCA as a dedicated leader who was deeply committed to public service and always made time to consult his constituents before making key legislative decisions.
“It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that I wish to inform the public of the passing of Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, the elected Member of County Assembly for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County,” Kibire said. “The late Kibiwott served the Assembly and the people of Endo Ward with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of duty.”
During his time at the County Assembly, Kibiwott played a critical role in several leadership positions.
He served as the Chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture and Irrigation, where he contributed significantly to policies and initiatives aimed at improving farming, food security, and irrigation projects within the county.
In addition to his chairmanship role, he was also an active member of several other important committees. These included the Committee on Administration, Justice, Public Service and ICT, as well as the Committee on Tourism, Trade, Cooperatives, Industrialisation, and Wildlife.
Through these committees, Kibiwott was involved in shaping policies that touched on governance, economic growth, technology, and environmental conservation.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich also joined leaders and residents in mourning the late MCA. The Governor expressed his condolences to Kibiwott’s family, fellow leaders, and the people of Endo Ward, noting that the county had lost a hardworking and committed servant of the people.
Governor Rotich highlighted Kibiwott’s service since his election in 2022 and urged the community to stand with the family during this painful period.
“With the permission of the family here at Nairobi Hospital, I wish to notify the EMC community and the Endo Ward community that Jeremiah Biwott has passed on,” the Governor stated.
He added, “I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family, friends, leaders, teachers, the Speaker, his fellow MCAs, the people of Endo, and the entire EMC community.”
Meanwhile, the County Assembly Speaker announced that arrangements are underway to support the bereaved family.
He revealed that members will be nominated to work closely with the family in planning funeral arrangements, and assured the public that more details regarding burial plans will be communicated in due course.
