Jubilee Party Announces Major Changes to Its Leadership
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has made significant changes to its leadership team, announcing Jeremiah Kioni as the party’s new Deputy Leader.
The announcement was made on Thursday, January 22, as part of a broader reshuffle aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In the statement, the party confirmed that former Narok Member of Parliament Richard Ole Kenta has been appointed as the new Secretary General, taking over the role previously held by Kioni.
This reshuffle means Kioni will now serve alongside former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who became Deputy Party Leader in October 2025.
The party called on all its members, supporters, partners, and Kenyans of goodwill to fully cooperate with Ole Kenta as he takes on his new responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of unity and support in ensuring effective leadership.
Matiang’i also confirmed that the changes were formally approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held on Thursday morning.
Richard Ole Kenta first entered the political scene in 2013, winning a parliamentary seat on a TNA ticket. He served two consecutive terms in parliament before contesting for the Narok County gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Elections.
Matiang’i highlighted that Kenta’s extensive experience in Kenya’s political system will be invaluable in guiding the party’s growth, particularly as the country approaches the crucial 2027 polls.
“The NEC met this morning and approved the proposal to appoint Ole Kenta as our new Secretary General. Ole Kenta is a highly respected and solid political leader, and we are grateful for his dedication and contributions to the party,” Matiang’i stated.
Several other key leadership positions were also filled following the NEC meeting. These include Zack Kinuthia as Deputy Party Secretary General, Yassin Noor Haji as National Organising Secretary, and Vincent Mogaka Kimoki as Party Chairperson.
Additional appointments include Dan Mwangi as Executive Director, Kiembi Gitura as Director of Elections, Peter Kados as Chair of the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome overseeing the Jubilee Foundation’s Public Policy portfolio.
The reshuffle comes just three months after Fred Matiang’i was appointed Deputy Party Leader, following the party’s endorsement of his presidential bid for the 2027 General Elections. Other vacant leadership positions were also filled during this exercise.
Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has been appointed Whip of the National Assembly, while Senator James Lomenen will serve as Senate Whip.
Jeremiah Kioni, speaking in October 2025, confirmed that the party had formally accepted Dr. Matiang’i’s application for the presidency and endorsed him to carry the Jubilee Party flag.
“We have received and accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he represents our party in the upcoming elections,” Kioni stated at the time.
He added, “Going forward, we have officially appointed Dr. Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader.”
This strategic reshuffle is seen as a move to solidify Jubilee Party’s leadership structure and prepare for the highly competitive political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
With experienced leaders like Kenta and Matiang’i at the helm, the party hopes to strengthen its influence and position in Kenya’s political arena.
