Kalonzo Denies Making Nairobi Deal With Gachagua Ahead of 2027
Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected claims made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suggesting that the two had reached a political deal concerning key Nairobi seats ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Gachagua, the alleged agreement would have required Wiper to withdraw its candidates from major Nairobi positions in favour of his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking during a Thanksgiving ceremony in Machakos County, Kalonzo dismissed the claims as baseless and accused government allies of intentionally spreading misleading information meant to divide and weaken the United Opposition.
He firmly stated that there was no such agreement between the two parties. “People should stop spreading propaganda that Wiper has surrendered all Nairobi seats to DCP.
These are deliberate efforts to cause unnecessary tension and confusion within our coalition,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo emphasized that the opposition remains united and continues to work together with a shared vision of defeating President William Ruto in the 2027 election.
He urged opposition partners to maintain close communication and address any disagreements collectively. “We are calling our colleagues to sit together and talk. There is nothing seriously wrong within the coalition. We will take a common position moving forward,” he added.
Earlier, Gachagua had claimed that the supposed deal would grant DCP control over top Nairobi political seats, including the governor and senator positions in 2027.
He also suggested that DCP would secure 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats and dominate the majority of MCA positions in Nairobi.
“We already have an understanding with the Wiper leader. Out of 17 constituencies, DCP will take 16. And out of 85 wards, DCP and Wiper together will win about 75,” Gachagua previously stated.
Gachagua’s remarks were seen by some within the opposition as part of ongoing behind-the-scenes political manoeuvres.
Sources have suggested that Gachagua has been quietly lobbying within the coalition, reportedly pushing for critical Nairobi positions in exchange for offering support to Kalonzo’s potential 2027 presidential bid.
The united opposition has in recent months faced various internal accusations, with some leaders being accused of holding secret meetings and forming alliances without informing the wider coalition.
Despite the disagreements, the coalition has consistently assured the public that it remains stable and committed to presenting a single presidential candidate to challenge President Ruto in 2027.
President Ruto has on several occasions challenged the opposition to publicly reveal their development agenda instead of focusing solely on removing him from office.
In response, the United Opposition has maintained that their priority and central mission is to give Kenyans an opportunity to vote the president out in 2027 and chart a new political direction for the country.
