Ruto and Cabinet Secretaries Announce Key Government Appointments
President William Ruto, alongside several Cabinet Secretaries, has announced a fresh set of appointments across major government agencies and departments, signaling a renewed focus on strengthening leadership in key public institutions.
The appointments, officially published on Friday through a gazette notice, include the reappointment of Brown Ondego as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) for another three-year term.
Ondego, who previously served as Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority, will continue to oversee the aviation regulator’s board, providing strategic guidance and leadership for the country’s civil aviation sector.
Notably, Ondego is the father of Captain Saviamaria Aseyo Ondego, the pilot who flew flight KQ203/RAO001 carrying the remains of the late veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga from India back to Kenya.
In the environmental sector, President Ruto also renewed the appointment of Emilio Mugo as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) for an additional three years, ensuring continued oversight in the country’s environmental governance and sustainable development initiatives.
The technology and smart city agenda also received attention, with Professor Raphael Munavu being reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority.
This authority is responsible for overseeing the development of Konza City, Kenya’s flagship smart city project, which aims to boost innovation, technology, and economic growth in the region.
Tourism leadership saw continuity with Francis Gichaba being reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).
This decision aligns with ongoing government efforts to strengthen tourism marketing and enhance Kenya’s global profile as a top travel destination.
Education governance was also strengthened, with Professor Julius Nyabundi being reappointed as Chairperson of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for a four-year term starting March 13 this year.
His reappointment ensures stability in the administration of national examinations and education standards across the country.
In the energy and nuclear sector, politician and former Nyatike MP Edick Omondi Anyanga has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority board for another three years, maintaining oversight of nuclear safety and regulatory compliance in Kenya.
The government also renewed appointments to the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority board, including Anwar Oloitiptip, Shadrack Tulon, Abdikahiya Maalim, Nasra Ibrahim Ibren, and Jeremiah Apalia Lomari, supporting continued progress on the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor initiative.
Within the Executive, Cabinet Secretaries have made additional appointments to strengthen governance across various institutions. Treasury CS John Mbadi led by appointing a new disciplinary committee for the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Christopher Mwangi Ahamed was named Chairperson, with Kivulli Francis Joseph Kithuka, Eunice Lumallas, Rachel Chebukati, and Koki Muli Grignon serving as members for a three-year term. This move aims to enhance professional accountability and regulatory oversight within the accounting sector.
Meanwhile, his counterpart, CS Hassan Joho, reappointed several members to the Kenya Maritime Authority board and added Yahya Mohamed as a new member, reinforcing leadership in maritime governance and regulatory matters.
In the defense sector, CS Soipan Tuya appointed Roline Kendi as Secretary of the Kenya Defence Forces Pension Appeals Committee, ensuring efficient handling of pension appeals for KDF personnel.
Environment CS Deborah Barasa reappointed Sophia Takaria Matura and John Muthusi Kimondiu to the NEMA board while bringing in Maj. (Rtd.) Wafula Asman Omari Mutacho and Lilian Apadet as new members.
These appointments aim to strengthen environmental oversight and drive sustainable development initiatives across the country.
Other Cabinet Secretaries, including Julius Ogamba, Salim Mvurya, and Mutahi Kagwe, also made appointments to institutions such as the Kenya Veterinary Board, the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, and several national polytechnics.
These decisions reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to revitalizing leadership across critical sectors and ensuring that key public institutions operate effectively and strategically.
