The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has stated that the reported disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju appears to have been a staged event, deliberately orchestrated, after thorough investigations over several days.
In a press statement released on Friday, April 3, the DCI explained that evidence gathered from CCTV footage, witness statements, and other investigative sources contradicted earlier claims that Tuju had been abducted.
“Following a detailed and meticulous investigation, our team has confirmed beyond any doubt that the alleged disappearance and kidnapping of Honorable Raphael Tuju was in fact staged and self-orchestrated,” the DCI stated.
According to investigators, the sequence of events began on March 21 at 6:46 PM, when Tuju’s car left Entim Sidai Hotel. Shortly afterward, the vehicle made a brief roadside stop.
During this stop, Tuju’s driver reportedly interacted with the driver of a white Toyota Probox, in what detectives believe was a pre-arranged meeting.
After this brief encounter, the two vehicles separated. CCTV footage captured Tuju’s car at 6:52 PM heading toward his home, while the Probox was seen at 7:03 PM joining the main road toward Ngong.
The timeline shows that at 7:04 PM, Tuju’s car was recorded moving toward Karen Shopping Centre, continuing the sequence of events that investigators say were carefully planned.
Later, both vehicles were captured approaching each other along Nandi Road. At 7:11 PM, the Probox was seen closely following Tuju’s vehicle. Moments later, at 7:12 PM, the two vehicles moved together toward Miotoni Road, in what the DCI describes as a coordinated maneuver.
By 7:17 PM, Tuju’s car had arrived at Miotoni Lane and parked with its hazard lights on. One minute later, the Probox arrived at the scene. At 7:18 PM, three individuals exited Tuju’s car and entered the Probox, which then left the location shortly afterward.
CCTV footage later captured the Probox heading toward Tuju’s residence at around 7:38 PM, effectively ending what investigators now describe as a carefully orchestrated operation.
The DCI further stated that several people of interest have been identified as having possibly planned or executed this staged incident. Investigations are ongoing, and those found responsible are expected to face the full force of the law.
This revelation comes after a highly publicized search for Tuju, which had initially raised concerns among the public and prompted widespread media coverage.
The DCI’s findings suggest a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and law enforcement, and authorities are determined to hold accountable anyone involved in this elaborate scheme.
