Ruto Invites Nairobi MCAs to State House After ‘Tutam’ Chants

Ruto Hosts Nairobi MCAs at State House After Energetic ‘Tutam’ Chants During Historic Assembly Address

President William Ruto has invited Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Nairobi to a cocktail gathering at State House, Nairobi, later this evening following his special address at the county assembly.

The invitation was officially announced on the floor of the Nairobi County Assembly by Speaker Kennedy Okeyo Ng’ondi shortly after the President concluded his speech.

According to the Speaker, the invitation came directly from President Ruto, who wanted to extend a warm and friendly gesture to the MCAs after the historic session.

Speaking to the members, the Speaker said the President had wholeheartedly asked him to pass the message and encourage all MCAs to attend the State House event once the assembly business was concluded.

“I would love to extend, as instructed by His Excellency, the gesture wholeheartedly to host you members for a cocktail party at State House at the rise of the assembly,” the Speaker said.

His announcement was received with excitement and cheers from the MCAs, many of whom welcomed the rare opportunity to engage with the Head of State in a more relaxed setting outside the formal chamber environment.

Before the members left the assembly, the Speaker further advised them to make sure they carried and wore their official identification tags to allow smooth entry and easy recognition at State House.

“Kindly make sure you wear your tags for easy identification,” he added moments before the House was adjourned.

The evening event is widely being viewed as a goodwill gesture meant to deepen the working relationship between the national government and Nairobi’s county leadership.

It also reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between State House and local representatives who play a key role in managing county affairs.

Earlier in the day, President Ruto received a lively and enthusiastic welcome from the Nairobi MCAs as he delivered his address. Throughout the speech, members repeatedly interrupted with pro-government chants and slogans associated with the President’s political messaging.

Among the slogans loudly chanted were “Tutam” and “Singapore,” phrases that have become closely linked to Ruto’s political vision and campaign style.

The slogan “Tutam” is widely understood to refer to the President’s ambition to serve two terms in office, with supporters using it to signal confidence in his 2027 re-election bid.

On the other hand, “Singapore” reflects President Ruto’s long-term dream of transforming Kenya into a world-class economy.

The slogan draws inspiration from Singapore’s journey from a developing nation into one of the world’s most advanced and successful economies, a path Ruto has often said Kenya should emulate.

President Ruto also made history with the address, becoming the first Kenyan Head of State to formally speak before a county assembly since the introduction of devolution 16 years ago.

The moment marked a significant milestone in Kenya’s governance structure and highlighted the growing importance of county governments in national development.

During his speech, the President gave updates on the cooperation between the national government and Nairobi County, emphasizing that close collaboration remains the best and most practical way to successfully manage the capital city.

He noted that joint efforts between the two levels of government are necessary to improve service delivery, infrastructure, and overall urban planning in Nairobi.

In a surprising revelation, President Ruto also disclosed that some sections of State House are expected to be demolished in the coming weeks after it was discovered that certain parts had been built on riparian land.

The unexpected announcement sparked fresh public interest, with many now waiting to see how the planned demolition will be carried out and what it could mean for future compliance with environmental and land-use regulations.

Overall, the President’s visit, the energetic chants from MCAs, and the State House invitation combined to create a memorable political moment, one that further signaled the importance of cooperation between national leadership and county representatives in shaping Nairobi’s future.
