What Osotsi Said in Munungo Before the Kisumu Attack
Fresh details emerging after the assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi show that his Munungo market address in Vihiga was one of the last major public engagements he made before the violent incident in Kisumu.
According to residents who attended the event, the senator’s speech strongly focused on people-centered politics, defending wananchi interests, and energising support for the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Residents from Munungo who later spoke after the Kisumu incident said Osotsi had “done a good job” at the market meeting, where he addressed local concerns and connected directly with ordinary wananchi. One resident quoted in follow-up interviews said:
“Senator came to this market at Munungo and did a good job.”
The Munungo meeting has now become politically significant because it happened just hours before the senator was attacked by suspected goons at a restaurant in Kisumu, where assailants reportedly confronted him over his political stance and support for a one-term position narrative.
Reports indicate the attackers specifically questioned why he supported that position before physically assaulting him.
The sequence of events has fueled claims from leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi camp that the Kisumu assault may have been linked to Osotsi’s recent grassroots mobilisation tours, including the Munungo stop, where he had continued to rally support among Western Kenya residents.
Siaya Governor James Orengo and other leaders have since condemned the violence as politically motivated.
In short, what Osotsi said in Munungo was a rallying message aimed at strengthening wananchi politics and building momentum for his current political alignment, and many now see that speech as part of the tense political backdrop that preceded the Kisumu attack.
