Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has given a detailed account of how he was attacked by a group of armed goons while in Kisumu, an incident he now says was a politically motivated attempt on his life.
What happened during the attack
According to Osotsi, the incident occurred at a coffee house in Kisumu, where he had gone to relax.
He said a group of about 20 youths entered the premises, initially behaving normally and even calling out his name. Moments later, they suddenly turned violent and started assaulting him.
He explained that the attackers appeared coordinated and targeted him specifically, despite the initial calm interaction. The senator sustained injuries before being rescued and later hospitalized.
Osotsi’s claims on motive
Speaking from hospital after the incident, Osotsi claimed the attack was not random but a planned political assault, suggesting that the goons were sent to intimidate or eliminate him due to his political views and activities.
He further alleged that the attackers behaved like hired goons, reinforcing his belief that the incident was orchestrated rather than spontaneous.
Security response and arrests
Following the attack, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched investigations and confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to the assault. Authorities also reviewed CCTV footage from the scene to identify more individuals involved.
Police have stated that more arrests are expected as investigations continue.
Political reactions
The attack sparked strong reactions from opposition leaders, who condemned the incident and demanded accountability from security agencies. Some leaders even called for action against senior government officials, claiming possible political involvement.
