Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir Mourns the Loss of His Father
The family of Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir is currently in mourning following the death of his father, Mzee Edwin Koech.
The sad news was confirmed on Tuesday, April 21, drawing messages of sympathy and support from leaders across the country who described the late Koech as a respected elder and a strong pillar within both his family and the wider community.
Among those who shared their condolences was Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
In his message, he noted that Mzee Koech was not only a father figure to his family but also a source of wisdom and guidance to many others.
He described him as a dependable and influential man whose advice and leadership touched lives far beyond his immediate circle.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo also joined other leaders in mourning, echoing similar sentiments about the late patriarch’s character and contributions.
Many described Mzee Koech as a devoted Christian who upheld strong family values and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people in his community.
Leaders further highlighted his lasting impact, especially in the education sector.
It is reported that he played a key role in supporting the development of schools and other important social facilities, helping to uplift living standards and create opportunities for younger generations.
His commitment to community service and belief in education earned him respect and admiration from many.
Senate Majority Leader Aron Cheruiyot also paid tribute, describing the late Koech as a highly influential figure whose mentorship shaped the lives of many people.
According to him, Koech’s influence extended far beyond his family, as he was always willing to guide and support others.
Former Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter remembered him as a generous and selfless individual. In his condolence message, Keter noted that Mzee Koech freely gave his time, shared his resources, and offered valuable advice to those around him.
He added that the many lives he touched and the development projects he supported will remain a lasting legacy of a man who strongly believed in giving back to society.
Following his passing, the body of Mzee Edwin Koech has been taken to Lee Funeral Home, where it is being preserved as the family begins preparations for his burial.
However, the family has not yet released detailed information regarding the cause of death or the official burial arrangements.
This unfortunate loss comes just days after another leader, Seme Member of Parliament James Nyikal, also lost his father, Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka.
Okaka passed away on April 12, with leaders from across the political divide sending messages of condolence and standing in solidarity with the grieving family.
As messages continue to pour in, many Kenyans are remembering Mzee Edwin Koech as a man of integrity, faith, and generosity—someone whose influence will continue to be felt for many years to come.
