Nairobi’s Central Business District experienced tense and fast-moving scenes this week as fuel price protests erupted, drawing large crowds and a heavy police response that disrupted normal business activity.

Eyewitnesses reported that groups of demonstrators gathered in the city centre to express frustration over rising fuel prices, which have continued to push up transport costs and the general cost of living.

What began as a relatively organized gathering quickly escalated into a highly charged situation as more people joined in and police officers moved in to restore order.

According to accounts from people who were present, the atmosphere in the CBD became increasingly chaotic, with crowds dispersing in different directions as security officers attempted to control movement and clear major streets.

Tear gas and forceful dispersal methods were reportedly used in some areas, creating panic among bystanders and commuters caught up in the unfolding situation.

Several arrests were made during the operation including Son of Jomo Kenyatta, with police detaining individuals they said were involved in unlawful assembly and disruption of public order. The presence of security forces remained heavy for several hours as officers worked to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation.
