Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka is mourning the death of his mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke, who passed away at the age of 81. The senator announced that she died on Wednesday, April 29, while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

In his statement, Onyonka described his mother as a loving and strong woman who played a key role in holding the family together. He said she was a person of deep faith, humility, and wisdom.

According to him, she lived a meaningful life centered on caring for others, serving her community, and showing love to everyone around her.

He added that her death is a huge loss not only to their family but also to all the people whose lives she touched through her kindness and guidance. He said she was the heart of their home and her influence will continue to be felt for many years.

The senator also asked Kenyans and well-wishers to continue praying for his family as they go through this difficult period. He thanked everyone who has already sent messages of support and comfort.

This sad news came shortly after Onyonka reportedly experienced a tense incident in Bondo. He was part of a political group linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement when they were confronted by a group of men who allegedly forced him to leave the area.

He later claimed that the incident showed rising political intolerance in the country. He also said that despite the challenges, he remains committed to his political mission.

In another heartbreaking story, the family of a Kisii University student, Mercy Chepkemoi, is asking for financial help after her sudden death. Mercy died after accidentally coming into contact with a live electric wire near her home in Kisii while she had gone out to do laundry.

Her death happened just when she was close to finishing her studies, with only one exam remaining before graduation. Her husband, a teacher employed under the Board of Management (BOM) at Cheptalal Girls, has been left to care for their young child while also dealing with the loss.

The family is now trying to raise money to transport her body closer to home in Bomet County for burial arrangements. Many people have described her death as very painful and unfortunate.

In Nairobi, businesswoman and politician Agnes Kagure has criticized the county government led by Governor Johnson Sakaja over how it is handling flooding in the city.

Her comments came after reports that several areas, including Utawala, Jacaranda, Sisal, Milimani, Motomoto, and Riara, were heavily affected by floods, leaving hundreds of households displaced.

Kagure said that while many county workers are hardworking, they are afraid of being punished if they perform better than their leaders. She argued that Nairobi needs better leadership and promised that she is ready to bring change if elected in the 2027 elections. Her remarks come as the Kenya Red Cross and other agencies continue to respond to the flooding situation across the country.

In international news, social media influencer Kiara Brokenbrough has died at the age of 32 during childbirth. Her husband, Joel, confirmed her death through an emotional message online. Their baby boy, Jonah, was delivered during an emergency but survived and is currently receiving care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

The couple had been preparing to relocate from West Virginia to California at the time of the tragedy. Following her death, Joel and the newborn baby have received public support, including financial assistance raised through a GoFundMe campaign.

Kiara’s death has sparked wider discussions about the dangers many women face during childbirth, especially Black mothers in the United States. Several public figures and health advocates have used the moment to raise awareness about maternal health challenges and the need for better care and support systems.

In another sad update from the online community, influencer Jade Kops has also passed away after battling cancer for a long time. Her family confirmed that she died on April 24. Just days before her death, she had shared a message that many now see as emotional and reflective.

Her passing has led to an outpouring of grief from fans and followers who had been closely following her journey and health updates.

Overall, these stories reflect a period of deep sadness across different communities, both in Kenya and abroad, as families, leaders, and online followers mourn loved ones lost in different tragic circumstances.
