Morara Kebaso Dumps His Party for Uhuru’s, Announces MP Bid

Morara Kebaso Leaves His Party, Joins Jubilee as He Declares Borabu MP Ambition

Political activist and lawyer Morara Kebaso has announced a major change in his political journey after revealing that he has abandoned his political party, the Inject Party, and will now work under the Jubilee Party as he prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Obinna TV on Monday, June 29, Kebaso explained that the decision was influenced by the current political landscape in the Gusii region, where he hopes to build his political career.

He said that after assessing the situation on the ground, he concluded that joining a stronger and more established political party would give him a better chance of serving the people.

Kebaso disclosed that he plans to contest for the Borabu parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections. He noted that his political ambitions at the constituency level played a significant role in his decision to set aside the party he founded.

According to him, the Inject Party will not be dissolved but will remain inactive for the time being as he focuses on working with the Jubilee Party.

He explained that politics requires leaders to adapt to the realities on the ground instead of holding on to decisions that may not help them achieve their goals.

“The Inject Party will remain in the cupboard. For now, we are working with the Jubilee Party. We have to go with the realities of the politics of the day,” Kebaso said during the interview.

The activist-turned-politician further explained that political success in Kisii and Nyamira counties largely depends on working with parties that already enjoy strong public support.

He argued that although smaller political parties may have good ideas and policies, they often struggle to convince voters to give them an opportunity to lead.

“In the Gusii region, you cannot talk of any other party. The people won’t listen and might not give you the opportunity to serve them even with good ideas,” he added.

Kebaso pointed out that the Jubilee Party, associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, remains one of the most influential political parties in the Gusii region.

He said the party’s popularity has grown even further after former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i declared his intention to run for the presidency under the Jubilee banner.

Because of Matiang’i’s influence in Kisii and Nyamira counties, Kebaso believes Jubilee currently offers the strongest political platform for anyone seeking elective office in the region.

He admitted that remaining in a smaller party could have made it difficult for him to win support from local voters, potentially ending his political ambitions before they had a chance to grow.

His latest announcement marks a significant shift from his earlier political plans. About a year ago, Kebaso had declared his intention to contest for the presidency and officially launched both his presidential campaign and the Inject Party.

At the time, he presented a manifesto that promised sweeping reforms aimed at improving governance and addressing challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.

When unveiling his presidential bid in May 2025, the lawyer and businessman promised to introduce policies that would transform several sectors of the economy.

He particularly emphasized agriculture, saying he wanted to modernize the sector and create more opportunities for young people through farming, agribusiness, and value addition.

However, only a few weeks after launching his presidential campaign, Kebaso surprised many Kenyans by announcing that he was stepping away from active politics.

He explained that the constant criticism, public pressure, and personal attacks had influenced his decision to withdraw.

In a statement released on June 23, 2025, Kebaso said he wanted to return to a normal life where he could focus on his businesses, travel, spend time with friends, and enjoy his personal freedom without constant public scrutiny.

“I’ve finally left politics. Now I can live my life, run my business, make my money, travel the world, see my friends, and visit a bar without worrying about being photographed. I’m free,” he said at the time.

Despite that announcement, Kebaso has now returned to the political scene, this time with a different strategy focused on parliamentary politics instead of the presidency.

His move to Jubilee signals a change in approach as he seeks to align himself with a party that already has significant support in his home region.

Morara Kebaso first rose to national prominence during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, where he became widely known for demanding greater government accountability.

His activism earned him widespread attention after he began travelling across the country inspecting government-funded projects that had either stalled or remained incomplete despite receiving public funds.

Through his well-known initiative dubbed “Vampire Diaries,” Kebaso documented abandoned development projects and questioned how taxpayers’ money had been spent.

Many of the projects he highlighted dated back to the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, with his investigations attracting widespread public interest and sparking conversations about transparency, accountability, and responsible use of public resources.

With the 2027 General Election drawing closer, Kebaso’s decision to join Jubilee and seek the Borabu parliamentary seat marks the latest chapter in his evolving political career, as he hopes the new alliance will strengthen his chances of winning elected office and representing his constituents.
