Anne Kanjeru, the mother of the late Meru blogger and political activist Daniel Muthiani, known as ‘Sniper,’ caused a commotion in the Senate on Tuesday, August 20, during the ongoing impeachment hearings of Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The incident occurred on the second day of the Senate proceedings, which have been marked by intense emotions and political tension.
Kanjeru, still grieving the loss of her son, could not hold back her anguish and began shouting during the testimony of Dickson Munene, the Legal Affairs Director of Meru County Government.
Her cries caught the attention of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, who initially tried to ignore the disturbance but eventually ordered her removal to restore order in the chamber.
Despite her resistance, parliamentary security officers managed to escort Kanjeru out of the Senate building.
Following her removal, the proceedings resumed without further interruption.
The late Daniel Muthiani was a prominent political activist and blogger in Meru County, known for his outspoken criticism of the county government.
His murder, which has been linked to local political tensions, led to the arrest of several county officials suspected of involvement in the crime.
The impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who faced charges of gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, and failure to perform her duties, has added to the emotional burden on Muthiani’s family, who are still seeking justice for his death.
