Gachagua’s Meeting With Activist Morara: A New Political Shift?

In an unexpected turn of events, activist Morara Kebaso held a meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday. This meeting came just days after Gachagua had shared his plans to appoint a Gen Z deputy in his political circle.

According to Kebaso, the discussion, which took place in Nairobi, revolved around significant national matters. The focus of the conversation included urgent issues like political reforms, the rising challenge of youth unemployment, and the need for better protection of human rights.

Kebaso, who has gained attention for his efforts in exposing ghost projects, underlined the importance of including diverse voices in leadership. He believes it is crucial to involve different leaders to make sure the youth are well-represented in the push for change in the country.

In a statement posted on social media, Kebaso highlighted that the meeting also tackled issues such as economic exclusion and the need for more effective actions to provide justice for those suffering from brutality, abduction, and extrajudicial killings.

He assured his followers, “I will continue to engage leaders from all sectors—political, religious, and civic—to amplify the voice of the youth in their quest for change.”

This meeting followed Kebaso’s participation in the launch of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) in Nairobi, an event that took place just a few days earlier.

The launch was attended by several high-profile figures, including Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Gachagua has been vocal about his desire to include younger leaders in political leadership roles. In a recent media roundtable, he expressed his intention to appoint a Gen Z deputy party leader, making it clear that young people should no longer be seen as the leaders of tomorrow, but as leaders of today.

Gachagua believes that his own experience combined with the innovative ideas of the younger generation will provide a well-rounded approach to governance.

“My party will involve them (Gen Z) to a very large extent at the position of deputy party leader. I’m the party leader; my deputy will be a Gen Z so that we involve them,” Gachagua emphasized during the roundtable.

Kebaso’s recent actions show a shift in his political journey. Only three months ago, he made a public declaration of independence, stating his departure from mainstream political parties and his dedication to pursuing a unique path with the Inject Party.

However, the recent collaborations, including his involvement in the PLP launch and this meeting with Gachagua, suggest that he might be reconsidering his earlier stance.

This change could be a sign of a more strategic approach to achieving political reforms. By forming alliances with established politicians, Kebaso may be aiming to create a stronger platform to push for meaningful change.

Political analysts are suggesting that this could signal a wider trend where youth leaders, like Kebaso, are gradually becoming more integrated into mainstream politics.

The goal appears to be effecting change from within the established political system, rather than standing on the outside.

This growing trend of collaboration among youth and political leaders could prove to be a defining factor in the future of Kenya’s political landscape.
