Sonko Speaks Out on Haiti Gang Leader’s Threat to Kenya Police

Controversial former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has waded into the brewing situation regarding threats made against Kenyan police officers planned for deployment in Haiti. Gang leader Jimmy reportedly warned the officers would face violence as “invaders” and appealed directly to President Ruto to reconsider.

Sonko took to social media to air his views on the matter. “As someone familiar with gang operations, I do not take these threats lightly. Our officers will be in serious danger,” he stated. The former governor urged President Ruto to carefully re-evaluate the mission and ensure officer safety is the top priority.

His comments add to rising public skepticism over the deployment. On Twitter, many questioned whether it was worth endangering lives to appease international partners. Some hinted at ulterior political motives at play.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Odinga echoed similar concerns over security. “We must avoid putting our police in harm’s way to serve foreign interests. The government has a duty to thoroughly review these sorts of operations,” he stressed.

President Ruto is facing increasing pressure to openly address the threats and reassuringly respond to fears. As tensions escalate in Haiti, many warn the situation could easily spiral out of control without due caution from Kenyan authorities.

For now, the planned deployment timelines remain unclear as behind-the-scenes risk assessments are reportedly ongoing. How the government ultimately decides to proceed may depend greatly on further developments on the ground in Haiti.
