Police officers are in hot pursuit of a prisoner who escaped from Nakuru Level Five Hospital under unfamiliar circumstances while receiving treatment.
Stanley Cheruiyot, a convict serving a life sentence at Nakuru Main GK Prison for the offense of defilement, reportedly staged a daring escape from the hospital at approximately 12:40 am on Monday, June 3rd.
According to a report filed at Kaptembwo Police Station, Cheruiyot, who had suffered a shoulder dislocation, was scheduled for an operation at the facility the following morning when he managed to flee.
However, what remains unclear is the method by which he evaded custody, given that he was reportedly under the watch of two prison officers, Corporal Lesso Kigen and Constable Jackson Otweka.
Dr. Samuel Waweru, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, revealed that the 29-year-old’s ward was situated near the fence bordering the neighboring Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), suggesting a possible escape route through KMTC premises.
“Upon discovery, Cheruiyot was found with one handcuff still fastened to his arm, while the whereabouts of the second restraint remain unknown,” explained Dr. Waweru.
According to reports, the ongoing pursuit to apprehend the fugitive is actively underway.
All stations are instructed to remain vigilant and to report for coordination.
