Machakos authorities have launched an investigation into the unsettling discovery of a female student’s body found floating in River Manza.
The case was initially reported by Kiandani Sub-Location Assistant Chief, John Musembi Kisalu, at approximately 6:50 pm on Sunday, June 9.
Upon receiving the report, officers from Machakos Police Station, accompanied by OCS and DCI officers, swiftly responded to the scene and recovered the body from the river.
According to official reports, the body, lacking any identification documents, was registered as an unknown case of drowning.
However, subsequent identification by the deceased’s father, Reverend John Mutua Kimunyi of PCEA Church Salama, revealed the victim to be Grace Mueni Mutua, a 20-year-old second-year student at Machakos Institute of Technology.
The unraveling of events began when Reverend Kimunyi received a mysterious phone call on Saturday, June 8, around 9 pm, purportedly from the mother of Mary Mutava, another student at the institution.
The father’s account sheds light on the perplexing circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, leaving authorities and the local community grappling for answers and closure.
According to reports, Reverend Kimunyi was informed by a caller, purportedly the mother of Mary Mutava, another student at Machakos Institute of Technology, about an accident involving his daughter and Mary.
The caller recounted that the two students were riding a motorcycle near the Red Cross in Machakos when the accident occurred. While Mary ended up at Machakos Level V Hospital with injuries, Reverend Kimunyi’s daughter’s whereabouts remained unknown.
On June 9, 2024, Reverend Kimunyi traveled to Machakos, where he discovered Mary Mutava at their shared residence in Kathemboni. Mary, nursing injuries from the accident, recounted the events to Reverend Kimunyi, expressing her own uncertainty about his daughter’s whereabouts following the incident.
These revelations add a layer of complexity to the investigation, leaving authorities and the community searching for answers and closure.
