The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) dismissed what it termed misinformation regarding the identity of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha in a Monday statement to the media.

The main suspect in the Kware killings, Jumaisi Khalusha, has admitted to the murder of forty-two women.

The directorate blamed the misinformation on Francis Gaitho (@Faitho237), an X user who allegedly issued a misleading statement by misstating the suspect’s name.

Gaitho’s post implied that there was no public record of Khalusha and incorrectly identified another innocent Kenyan, Jairus Onkundi, as the suspect.

According to the DCI, the erroneous information included names, images, and descriptions of Onkundi, which caused significant distress.

Hours later, Jairus Onkundi Morwabe, a 24-year-old Meru University of Science and Technology graduate, surrendered to the DCI out of fear for his safety.

“Hours later in the afternoon, our Complaints Directorate received a shaken young man in the names of Jairus Onkundi Morwabe aged 24 years and a graduate from Meru University of Science and Technology, who was surrendering himself to the authorities for clearance from any culpability in the ongoing investigation. ” the statement from DCI reads.

“Jairus is a bachelor’s degree holder in Computer Science from the named university, a course he undertook between 2019 and 2023.”

According to detectives, Onkundi reported receiving numerous worried messages from family and friends while at his workplace in Parklands, Nairobi.

“Jairus has since been given the necessary assistance from the side of the police, and this press briefing provides an opportunity to clarify to the members of the public that the 24-year-old is not a criminal, and neither is he wanted by the DCI for any reason whatsoever.” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Khalusha, a 33-year-old murder suspect, was arrested at a Kayole club on Sunday night and discovered to have multiple sim cards.

He is suspected of killing the victims and wrapping their bodies in polythene bags found in the dumpsite.

Citizen Digital has established that the suspect was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu awaiting further police action.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja confirmed on Sunday that 8 bodies and 12 body parts have been retrieved from the dumpsite as further probe on the horrific incident continues.

Meanwhile, families whose loved ones were missing have arrived at the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly City Mortuary, to identify their kin from the retrieved bodies.
