EPRA has announced a drop in the price of petrol by Sh3 while that of diesel by Sh6.08 per litre, and kerosene by Sh5.71 per litre.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices following their latest review respectively, effective from midnight for the next 30 days.

According to the statement issued by EPRA on Friday, the price of super petrol will decrease by Ksh.3 per litre, diesel by Ksh.6.08 per litre, and kerosene by Ksh.5.71 per litre.

The new pricing structure will see super petrol retailing at Ksh.189.84 per litre, diesel at Ksh.173.1 per litre, and kerosene at Ksh.163.05 per litre in Nairobi.

The cost of super petrol in Eldoret will be Sh189.67, diesel will be Sh173.31, and kerosene will be Sh163.34.

In Nakuru, petrol will be sold at Sh188.90, diesel at Sh172.54, and kerosene at Sh162.57.

Meanwhile, in Mombasa, super petrol will retail at Sh186.66, diesel at Sh169.93, and kerosene at Sh160.

“The adjustment in fuel prices includes a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as required by the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020. The prices also take into account revised excise duty rates that have been adjusted for inflation, in line with Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” read the statement.

EPRA’s decision to lower fuel prices is attributed to a reduction in the average landed cost of imported fuels. In May 2024, the cost of super petrol decreased by 1.95% to US$750.95 per cubic metre, compared to US$765.87 in April.

Diesel saw a more substantial drop of 3.92%, with the cost falling from US$719.21 to US$690.99 per cubic metre. Kerosene experienced the most significant decrease of 6.84%, dropping from US$728.97 to US$679.14 per cubic metre.
