Moses Kuria Criticises Gachagua Over Plans to Lead Protests to Oppose CJ Koome’s Removal

Moses Kuria Slams Gachagua Over Protest Plans to Oppose CJ Koome’s Removal

Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his alleged plans to organize protests if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office.

On Monday evening, Kuria, who previously served as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary, accused Gachagua of pushing a selfish political agenda by urging Mt Kenya residents to protest while other regions focused on development.

Kuria stated that while he respects everyone’s right to pursue their political ambitions, he found it unacceptable for leaders to encourage demonstrations that could put the lives of young people from Mt Kenya at risk.

He warned that it was unfair to call youths to the streets while other parts of the country focused on economic progress.

“I have no issue with anyone advancing their political goals, but telling young men from my region to go to the streets and risk being shot while other regions concentrate on development is extremely selfish,” Kuria posted on his X account.

The economic advisor went further to challenge Gachagua, urging him to take to the streets alongside his own children before calling on other youths from Mt Kenya to participate in the demonstrations.

Kuria’s remarks came just hours after Gachagua publicly announced that he would lead mass protests if CJ Koome is removed from office or arrested.

Speaking in an interview with Kikuyu radio stations on Sunday, February 9, Gachagua declared that he would not sit back and watch as the Chief Justice was forced out of office, just as he himself was removed from the Deputy President position.

The former DP stressed that leaders from the Mt Kenya region would not remain silent if the government targeted and mistreated prominent figures from their community.

Gachagua further claimed that President William Ruto’s administration had a hidden agenda to weaken the Supreme Court ahead of the 2027 elections.

“They want to kick out Martha Koome just like they did to me. But this time, we will not stay silent. If they remove her, we will take to the streets and block the roads,” Gachagua vowed.

He also alleged that the petitions currently being filed against CJ Koome in the Supreme Court were politically motivated and orchestrated by the government to install judges who would be loyal to those in power.

“All these petitions against the Supreme Court are being fueled by the government. Their goal is to ensure that they have judges who will do whatever they want,” he claimed.

Gachagua also revealed that some young people from Mt Kenya had approached him to express their frustration.

They reminded him that when he was impeached, he discouraged them from protesting, but now they were unwilling to remain silent as they saw a pattern of political suppression targeting their community.
