The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued a stern ultimatum demanding Dr. Omondi’s immediate and unconditional release.
Dr. Austin Omondi was allegedly abducted on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atella stated,
“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Austin Omondi. Should he not be safely returned by midnight, we will initiate the closure of all public and private medical services to locate our colleague. We urge the individuals driving police car KCU 819H to return Dr. Omondi immediately to continue his life-saving humanitarian work. Medical personnel remain impartial, dedicated to saving lives on all sides of any conflict.”
KMPDU, representing over 10,000 medical professionals, strongly condemns what it describes as a government-led abduction. Dr. Omondi, also known as Japrado, was allegedly taken while leading a blood donation effort to support injured protestors.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Kenya Dental Association (KDA) have joined the outcry, calling for Dr. Omondi’s safe return.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo reported the abduction to Parklands police station, demanding swift action. The KDA, expressing deep concern for Dr. Omondi’s well-being, has pledged full support for the ongoing efforts to ensure his release.
