Former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter reportedly abducted by unknown assailants as he left a church event in the Kileleshwa area of Nairobi on Sunday.
In a video circulating through the internet, a group of armed men in plain clothes is seen pulling a man, believed to be Keter, from his Toyota V8 Land Cruiser. The men then forced him into a Ford Ranger Double-cabin vehicle and sped away from the scene.
Witnesses, including those near the church event, could be heard screaming for help as the abduction unfolded.
Despite multiple attempts to seek clarification, Kilimani police boss Anthony Muturi did not respond to calls or texts. Keter’s current whereabouts remain unknown, heightening anxiety among his supporters and family.
Shortly after the incident, Keter managed to post a message on his official Facebook page, stating,
“Abducted and taken to an unknown destination.”
This incident occurs during a period of heightened tension in Kenya, with increasing pressure on authorities to address the issue of abductions targeting individuals critical of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Last week, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leadership submitted a report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), documenting 39 cases of missing persons who had participated in protests against the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
The LSK and Azimio have continued to receive alarming reports from families of missing persons, many of whom were involved in the anti-Finance Bill protests. The issue of forced disappearances has sparked outrage and calls for accountability, as several individuals remain hospitalized with injuries sustained during the protests.
